OVER THE PAST six months, TASTE PORTUGAL London, the Portuguese Tourist Board’s gourmet initiative, has brought Portugal’s epicurean delights to the UK and has taken guests on a whirlwind tour of the Iberian Peninsula, offering insights into the very best of the fresh produce, traditional flavours, modern recipes and distinctive wines that the country has to offer. For a very special event, taking place back home in Portugal in association with CONRAD Algarve, a magical climax will be reached, with an exclusive kitchen party offering seven dishes with seven wines served by seven sommeliers, each representing one of the seven different wine regions. It will be the gastronomic event of the season – a fitting culinary homage to spring.

The event will be hosted by three Michelin starred chef Heinz Beck, from CONRAD Algarve’s Gusto, who will invite a further eight of the world’s top chefs into his kitchen – which boasts views over the hotel’s breath-taking infinity pool – four of them working in pairs – to create seven delectable dishes. The roll call for these culinary celebrities, which will total a massive 11 Michelin stars, will be: José Avillez (from the two Michelin starred Belcanto in Lisbon), Vincent Farges (from the one Michelin starred Fortaleza do Guincho in Cascais), Ricardo Costa (from Porto’s one Michelin starred The Yeatman), João Rodrigues (from the one Michelin starred Feitoria in Lisbon), Graham Hornigold (Executive Pastry Chef of the Michelin starred Hakkasan group) together with Henrique Sá Pessoa (from Lisbon’s Restaurant Alma), and Chris and Jeff Galvin (who together run seven Michelin starred French restaurants in the UK and beyond).

The seven sommeliers will be: Sérgio Marques (representing Madeira, from Funchal’s one Michelin starred Il Gallo D'Oro), Ricardo Morais (co-founder and sommelier of Simplify Somm, representing Lisbon), Sérgio Pereira (Executive Sommelier for Vinalda, representing Porto and its vinhos verdes), Miguel Martins (Owner of Sommelier wine shop, representing Algarve), Donatilia Rodrigues (from Herdade do Esporão, representing Alentejo), Gil Pinto (representing Douro, from DOP by Rui Paula), and, last but not least, TASTE PORTUGAL’s award-winning António Lopes (back in his home establishment, representing Dão/Bairrada).

This exclusive event will take the form of a kitchen party for up to 100 lucky guests. It will start at 19.00 with a cocktail reception, dinner following at 20.00. Tickets are 175€ per person including wine flight.
