28º – 50º IS THE inspirational vision of founders and owners, master sommelier Xavier Rousset and top chef Agnar Sverrisson, who also own the Michelin starred restaurant Texture. It takes the traditional wine bar experience to a whole new level, bringing in excellent food, indulgent comfort and superb service.
Each of the three locations, set across London – in Fetter Lane, Marylebone and Mayfair – is stylish, friendly and relaxed: welcoming to friends and colleagues who want to drop in for a drink after work, and to groups or solitary travellers who want to dine, be it indoors or al fresco in one of the courtyards. There is also a rolling calendar of events – including tastings, workshops and themed dinners – and a choice of private rooms for hire.
Each establishment has a list of over 30 carefully chosen wines, available by the glass, carafe or bottle, and a seasonally changing menu.
The most recent addition to the triumvirate is located in Maddox Street, in the heart of Mayfair. Set over two floors, the restaurant features 28º – 50º’s first champagne bar, which serves nearly 50 champagnes. The lower ground floor is home to a significant wine display, as well as to the restaurant’s open kitchen, headed by executive chef Ben Mellor.
The bar and restaurant are done out in reclaimed timber, as a reference to the wine barrels. Marble and bespoke tiles offer a touch of elegance and leather upholstery conjures up the opulence of an old gentleman’s club.
